Although the following video is actually quite dated (December, 2009), I just recently stumbled upon it and thought the prop community might be interested in the content nonetheless.

The video features former NCIS prop master George Tuers, and goes into some pretty great detail about the show, the props and the importance of the little effects. Perhaps most interesting is the part about real (as opposed to fake, obviously) weapons and how some knifes are permitted for the Hollywood filming industry only.

The Prop Blog Chronicles are, in every sense of the word, a narrative record of my introduction and establishment into the world of prop and costume collection. They are all based on personal experience and reflect my opinion and interpretation of the experiences. This is not an editorial, research article or press release.

In going through my vast array of photos from my many trips to both Los Angeles and New York City, I uncovered a long forgotten folder with pictures of memorabilia from the hit ABC show LOST.

These photos were taken at a LOST exhibition on display at the Vilcek Foundation about a month prior to the Profiles in History auction in 2010.

Enjoy!

You had an anticipate several items selling for more than their high estimates, but the vast majority of lots soared greatly beyond their high estimates. It was another prime example of Julien’s doing things exactly the way they should be done, and Bette Midler proving she’s far from out of the picture.

Below is a quick look at some of the most notables lots sold and their hammer prices.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but unfortunately, that may not result in the annual opening of the “Holly”wood Christmas Movieland Museum in Cleveland, Illinois.

Since 2008, “Holly”wood Christmas Movieland Museum has been home to more than 400 Hollywood Christmas relics including costumes from A Christmas Carol, Jim Carrey’s sleigh from The Grinch, Will Ferrel’s Buddy costume from Elf (see above) and the famous leg lamp from A Christmas Story. However, Movieland has lost its long-standing strip-mall home in North Olmsted, and have yet to find a new or permanent residence.

This precarious position may ultimately “Holly”wood Christmas Movieland Museum out of Cleveland and into Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

“We are trying to retain it in Cleveland,” says Dena Klaus, wife of Movieland Museum creator Mark Klaus. “The Christmas Story House is here, and with both locations open it was a tremendous draw. It’s like a hidden gem inside of Cleveland.”

Still, in this rough economy, tourist attractions must be wanted by their resident city to receive any backing. And with the attraction bringing in onlookers from over 20 different states, you’d think someone would step up and keep them local.

“We are trying to get the backing from a city that really wants us,” Dena says. “We bring people from 20 different states, and we can really turn a community around. We are looking for people with buildings willing to work out a deal … or an angel investor.”

With time running out, the “Holly”wood Christmas Movieland Museum may need, dare I say, a Christmas miracle.

The Prop Blog Chronicles are, in every sense of the word, a narrative record of my introduction and establishment into the world of prop and costume collection. They are all based on personal experience and reflect my opinion and interpretation of the experiences. This is not an editorial, research article or press release.

Given that it’s Halloween, I figured it would be the opportune (and appropriate) time to share updated photos of my personal collection. As you well know by now, it includes a variety of props and costumes (replica, screen-used and production made) from horror movies (save for Batman & Robin) and thriller television shows.

Although I’ve slowed down a bit in my additions, regular readers will note a few new additions.

Enjoy!
