Sources Reconfirm Not All Lost Props Will Be Available

Like the show itself, everything regarding ABC’s hit television show ‘Lost’ is open to interpretation. Many believe their theories are correct and sound, while many others disagree wholeheartedly. So it should come as no surprise that my recent report regarding the whereabouts of the remaining Lost props and costumes was met with fierce resistance and disbelief.

After all, how could this new sports blogger turned prop collector possibly scoop the entire prop world when it comes to something so carefully monitored and significant? And more importantly, why would any legitimate source bother to offer him such an important piece of insider information?

I’ll be the first to admit that those are very good questions. But the answers themselves are simple.

First and foremost, I’m a neutral party. I don’t have anyone to answer or appeal to other than those reading my work. My job is strictly to bring readers interesting material to read on a daily basis. That’s it. Secondly, sources come to me for that exact reason. They realize I am not out to skew the news and that I’m just here to present the facts to the best of my ability.

With that said, I would like to correct my previously erroneous report.

I had initially been told there were somewhere between 5,000-6,000 props and costumes used on the Lost set(s). Of that number, I was informed that Profiles in History would be auctioning off somewhere around 1,000 of the most noteworthy and valuable. Since then, and upon more digging, I think the total number of items for sale is much higher than I previously estimated. Profiles’ own Joe Maddalena has claimed anywhere between 5,000 and 10,000 items will be auctioned off.

Will Charlie's finger tape be one of the items sold?

Will Charlie's finger tape be one of the items sold?

I asked Alec Peters, CEO of Propworx, who did the Battlestar Galactica auctions, how many items they sold in those auctions. He said all told, they sold over 8,000 items. With that being said, one would have to assume that Lost, which has lasted 50% longer, would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 12,000 items. This includes props, costumes, set decoration, set pieces and original concept art.

In hindsight, that’s something I should have taken into consideration when I first wrote my article. After all, 5,000-6,000 items for a show that focuses so much attention on weaponry, set decoration and attire would be really low-balling it.

Now comes the next dispute…is Profiles in History really auctioning off all 12,000 items?

I’ve recently reached out to Profiles directly, but due to Joe Maddalena being out of town, I have yet to receive a reply. However, inquiries to sources at Bad Robot confirm my original report that a good amount of props and costumes from Lost will not be available in the upcoming auction.

As it stands, I was admittedly incorrect about the number of items Profiles in History will auction off. However, I stand by original report, which was against confirmed via my source at Bad Robot, that not all props and costumes from the television series will be available to the public this summer.

Well im sure like any production BSG included, where the actors got to keep some of the wardrobe and/or props. Its my understanding that there will be about 1000 – 1200 lots in the PIH lost auction with there being as many as 25 items or more per lot ( ie all of bens passports being 25 items will be auctioned off in one lot)

I guess only time will tell…
